My betta fish keeps swiming under the rocks in fish bowl, is this normal?

i switched his round bowl to a square bowl and it looos like hes dead so i poke the rock of with a pen but its so wierd cuz he doesnt move but his side fins do...


also how often do i feed him?
 
He needs at least a 2.5 gallon filtered, heated aquarium to thrive.

I feed my Betta's every other day, 2-3 Betta pellets.
