My betta fish doesn't flare?

I got my betta fish in January and for some reason he doesnt flare. I have tried holding a mirror in front of him but he just stares at it and then swims away. Did I just get a really smart betta that knows its just his reflection, or is he just not aggressive? Thank you!
 
He is not the type of betta that flares. My betta doesn't. The type of betta is a half moon betta, they are nit very aggresive and do not flare
 
maybe....

print out a picture of a betta and tape him to a tooth pick and dance him in front of the betta...

maybe that will get him going...

who knows....

worth a laugh if it works...
