My Beta Fish, Hemingway...is he anorexic, hyper active?!?

My Beta fish, Hemingway, is somewhat anorexic. He only eats when he wants to, which is rare. Some days I think he is dead, because he just lays at the bottom of the tank...other days he eats right in front of me and will not stop swimming? What is wrong with Hemingway??!! Is he anorexic? Is he hyper active? Is is water too cold??
no, i don't have a filter or a heater. He is in a gallon bowl that I cahnge the water in regualarly. He eats beta pellets. when he does eat, he only eats two...is that enough?
 
Fish don't tend to be hyperactive or anorexic. Have you checked your water's parameters? Does it have a filter? What temperature is his tank? It should be between 76-78 degrees. If it isn't, gradually adjust the heater. You have a heater in his tank, right? Do you do regular partial water changes? What are you feeding him?
The proper food for Bettas is Betta pellet food. If he is not too hip to that, try offering him brine shrimp or bloodworms. Those should get his appetite going. You can also pop a pea out of it's shell, cut it up into Betta-bite size pieces, and offer him some of the pieces. Most Bettas love peas, and they're good for them. Remove anything he doesn't eat within 15 minutes, you don't want to foul the water.
If you have done all this and he still doesn't eat and act normally, I'd try treating him with Maracyn-two. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic especially for fishes that won't eat. You can get it at about any pet store. I'm not sure what is wrong with him, but that might help, it's worth a shot. A fish that isn't eating is most likely a sick fish. Good luck!

let him do what he wants whats his water temp and they all have diffferent perasonalities
