My best bud is a brown belt in BJJ, he is on a tournament team and competes all around the south east. this past Saturday we were at a house party and he went up to flirt with some random girl who was "eying him" according to my friend lol, turns out the girl was taken.
The boy friend walks over, a few words are exchanged and a altercation ensues. My buddy gets the guy on the ground after the guy throws some punches and they dance around for a while. While on the ground my friend got bitten then had his eye gouged while trying to get this dude in first some kind of headlock and then some kind of arm bar, when my friend did get him in a rear choke the guy was able to again poke his eyes and then hit at his groin. After a while my friend takes a head but while pinning the guy down which then prompts my buddy to roll off of him ( my friend is by this time exhausted) . I was watching from a distance because he had told me to "let him handle it, and "not to interrupt him" as the guy was fixing to kick the dog crap out of my bud I step in ALSO dance around with the dude (who was on something) for a while and then wind up front kicking him in the chin, and then nailing him in the nose with a palm heel strike. The guy falls and the fight is over. My bud had to go to the ER to get checked out, and the guy woke up with a head ache and a bloody ( I hope broken) nose . Of course now I am facing assault charges, as is the guy so its a big mess that I wish I would of stayed out of but any-who...
I told this story because I am a purple belt in TaeKwonDoe and Weeping Jujitsu which is a Japanese form of Jujitsu, and I have been taught extensive self defense and common sense tactics while my friend just knows BJJ (though they do teach him strike defense) I was planning on taking BJJ when I get my black belt, to add some grappling to all the strikingg and arm locks we learn. I figure it would make me more complete in a tournament. But now that I saw BJJ fail in self defense, and have heard my buddy rag me about how TKD is not as good as BJJ blah blah. I dunno if I should even fool with taking it since I could get my head bashed in while choking a guy lol.
What do you the Yahoo answers experts lol think ? ?????
Let it be known that I respect BJJ as a art but I am apprehensive now that I have seen it in action in a self defense circumstance. I am not taking a shot at the art, I myself almost took BJJ before I decided on my style of TKD.
Idon't want any BJJ or TKD fan boys answering this just fair opinions !
