My baby is 5 month's is it ok for him to eat solids?

My son just turned 5 months and for the past two weeks has been crying for a bottle every two hours and I am getting no sleep he is showing a lot of interest in food.. So today I tried Rice cereal and he loved it he scarfed it right down and cried when I stopped I fed him half of his bottle then gave him the cereal and then I gave him the rest of the bottle... Is this ok? I feel bad that i'm not waiting till 6 months but its the only solution to his constant hunger
 
he maybe starting early on solids but monitor him for any symptom of change like constipation. Other than that, congrat! he is on his way...
