My Art teacher has cancer...?

He's the best teacher I have ever had, he was almost more than just a teacher to me..... he was almost like an adopted grandpa of sorts. He was always nice to me and understanding, telling our class stories and cracking jokes. It seems like the worst things happen to the best people.

It all started with a doctor appointment he had one day last year. They found a tumor. After a couple months of research, the found it was prostate cancer. He started coming to school less and less, there was a substitute at least 3 days out of the week. Then for the last couple months of school, he didnt come at all. Over the summer it spread throughout his body, and in his bones. He is now confined to a wheel chair, and (I have heard) he is barely in his right mind anymore.

Like for an expample, he went to get some tests done out of state, and his wife said that he was scared and didnt know where he was, and he kept worrying about having to hitch hike home. It is pretty much certain that he isnt going to live. Its so strange, it was only a mere 6 months ago or so that everything was (seemingly) fine.

I feel like I have to say goodbye to him somehow, but I just dont know how. I tried writing a letter, but I didnt know what to say. And I kept thinking, would he even know what I am talking about in the letter? Would he even remember me?

Do you have any suggestions of what I should do? Should I just not do anything?

Sorry if this question doesnt belong here, I didnt know where else to put it.
