My '95 Mazda B2300 Pick-up Won't Start. Can you help me troubleshoot it?

It had been getting harder and harder to start it, until finally, now it won't start up. In the last few months I would start it and I would have to put some gas on the pedal immediately to keep it running until it ran about 10 seconds then I could gradually let off and the engine wouldn't die. Once the motor was hot- or if I drove it at least once a day, I noticed it would start right up. But if I left it sitting for 2 days or more, it would be tough to get it running again. We have hot climate where I live. People have told me however that the fuel pump is starting to go out in it. I have tried starting it without the air filter in it just to test it and that didn't seem to make any difference. It turns over fine, but just won't start. Please help.

It's a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine with 8 spark plugs. i believe the engine is ford. thanks for reading.
