My 6 week e72 review

basically negatives are :
Lets start with the negatives:
has a 2.4 screen, low res, qwerty is not as good as blackberry for typing. I frequenty have to look at it as i type I dont like touch screens much and I like having something physical to push when I am typing. Keypad .....7/10
screen.......5/10
battery.....9/10

However, this phone has the call quality & RF quality unlike any phone on the market , on par with one of the best IMO the nokia x6 .

There is a small area on my floor that both the iphone 4G and Blackberry curve , BOTH do not get good reception and barely can I have a conversation . With the e72, not only can the other person hear me, I don't have to repeat myself, Just the best Call quality, RF, sound quality phone with a qwerty I have ever used.

The 11mm thickness with aluminum around the sides, made me realize how much bettter it feels to type on something so thin , its a good feeling .

THe fact of the matter is, this phone is about the same size as on Iphone 4, maybe a tad bit smaller in thickness and width, however the weight difference is like night and day. Having to carry around the iphone 4 felt like a naunce, but with the e72 the weight is not noticeable and its more pleasureable being able to use something that thin and light that makes calls brilliantly.

Overall though, in terms of symbian, yes the OS sucks. But nokia has 4 buttons on the front and thats all i really care about the calendar, contacts, email , notes . So this is what i use mostly and the e72 has a very easy to use interface that gets these 4-5 critical business functions easily acessible and done .

If the next generation of NOkias HAVE SOLID hardware as the e72. There is NO amount of APPS and shiny OS es that will persuade me to not buy one.

JUst being able to make a quality call makes all the apps and shiny 'wo-ho' cool things the iphone can do , very unimportant.
Peace

it is a nice piece of hardware (that languished in a desk drawer for almost a YEAR while i waited for firmware updates that would make it usable). the early firmware versions cost me several times more than the phone in lost sales.

i swear this time i have learned my lesson, never, NEVER buy a nokia that is under a year old. being the alpha test subject sucks on toast.

with that out of my system, i will say that the current firmware was what finally got me to switch from my trusty E71 (which rides around in my laptop case as standby in case the 72 bricks on me). i like the charge through USB, but the main app i use (besides calls and email) is JoikuSpot. ah, yes, speaking of email, i finally switched back to PULL as nokia messaging PUSH is worthless as a gun that works 60% of the time. better to carry a club. fortunately PULL is easy to set up and works flawlessly.

with a good bluetooth headset, this is a hard phone to beat (i still miss being able to record voice command tags though). i really hope they come out with something like this in the future, much as i like the iTouch, i can't stand the idea of a touchscreen (or an Apple) as a phone...
