My 360's Warranty Expired While Shipping?

I got the Three Red Rings on my Xbox 360 and I sent it in for repair in warranty. However, the warranty expired while it was shipping but it has not arrived at Microsoft yet. I was wondering if they will check the sent date and use that to check for a current warranty or if they check upon recieveing the Xbox.
