My 2006 Toyota Corolla Check light comes on?

My 2006 Toyota Corolla CE has 84,000 miles. I had an oil change 2 weeks ago. One day after the oil change, the check light comes on. During that time, the light comes on some days during driving, and some days, it doesn't come on at all. Everytime the light comes on, the car jerks when accelerating. I drive most on high way (500 mile on every weekend). I drive local during weekdays about 50 miles each week. I go to the dealer to change my engine oil everytime as scheduled. I went to see the Toyota dealer, they told me I have to replace the ECU, and it cost $860. Since my miles are over 80,000, I don't have any warranty. Can any experts tell me what should I do?
 
My first piece of advice is to take your car to Advance Auto or AutoZone. If your check engine light is on, they have diagnostic tools that can check why the light is on. If they agree with the dealer that replacing the ECU is the only way to go, then you might have to get it done. Either way, shop around. The dealer is often the most expensive place to get car work done, and I would not go there unless you had to. Call around, see how much other places are going to charge you for the same work and go with something cheaper. Either way, wait for a second opinion on the ECU because that is not a cheap fix.
