My 2006 Chrysler Town and Country takes a very long time to heat up.?

When driving my minivan, it takes a very long time for heat (warm air) to come out when set to heat. I've had the car for almost three years and it always (in winters past) used to blow warm air very quickly. It only blows warm once the thermostat reaches the halfway point which takes about 10 minutes. Also, after driving with the heat running for about 20 minutes or so, I start to smell a burning plastic smell if I leave the heat running all the way at it's hottest setting. I've thought that it might be a thermostat problem (I've replaced a thermostat once before MANY years ago) but I'm not sure if these newer models have them or where they would be.
Any suggestions?
