I'll put in the key, turn and the dash lights, radio, ect come on but the starter does not engage. If I tap the starter with a stick a few times it will start, though sometimes it takes a minute and a few taps. It has started to happen more frequently. The battery seems to be fine. I also want to add there is a security device on the car put on by the loan company. It requires me to turn the key, listen for 2 beeps and then turn the car over. It seems tapping the starter does the trick to get the car to start though, so im unsure if this has anything to do with it.
What may be causing this issue? Do I need to replace the wole starter, or just a certain part of the starter? Could it be possible that the something else is causing the issue? What part would you suggest look into replacing/ fixing? Do you think this is this something I could fix myself?
