My 2003 chevy 1500HD wont start for 5-10 seconds most of the time, it turns over and then when it fires it seems to run fine?? I did have a check engine light on but it went off. I own a salvage yard and run gas out of vehicles I get in to ave fuel cost and have never seemed to have a problem until I filled my tank the last time and this started happening. I ran all the fuel out and put in pump gas from BP and sea foam thinking maybe I just got some bad gas but it still is doing the same thing. If I run the truck and shut it off and turn it over again right away it will fire instantly, but if I let it sit for a few mins it seems to crank longer before starting. Please give me some advice before I go spend $300 to get it diagnosed?? I am mechanically inclined but this has me stumped??? Thanks iun advance for your help???

The relief Valve in the fuel pump is NOT holding fuel pressure when you shut the truck off. You can verify this by connecting a fuel pressure gauge to the port on the fuel rail. It will cause the truck to crank for a few seconds before starting. Try just turning the key on, then off, then on again, then try starting the truck. I will bet you will find it fires right up the third time !
