its getting to the point where i have to constantly blast the heater to keep the temperature down. any mechanic types out there have any clues as to what could be going wrong?

First thing: 1.Check the coolant level in the overflow resevoir, and then in the radiator. It should be 1/2 inch below the cap in the radiator. Use coolant and distilled water 50/50 mix. DO NOT USE JUST WATER OR JUST COOLANT
If not coolant level: 2. have a mechanic check waterpump, radiator for clogs, thermostat.

Most likely coolant level

It's not uncommon for dust and debris to collect between the radiator and the AC condenser., They are usually sandwiched together and the space and fins get filled with dirt preventing air flow, this seriously cuts down on the ability to cool properly. Take a pressure washer or garden hose and wash them. Be careful not to bend or damage the fins and try to force the water through from the engine compartment rather than blowing the dirt and water into the motor and under the hood. Check your coolant levels and make sure you don't have any hose leaks.
