My 2000 Toyota Corolla's radio is not turning on?

I recently bought this car used, and I can't seem to get the radio to turn on. Also, there is a "CD" button on the receiver, but I don't see any CD slot, or caddy. Where is it supposed to be? Is there even a CD player?
