Easiest thing to do is "change the spark plugs and distributor cap" These are not meant to last forever. 12000 miles or a year on the plugs - 6 months on the cap and rotor.
If that didn't fix your problem, then also change the air cleaner. Again something that should be done at least once a year.
Not yet? Look to see if there is a fuel filter - yeah(replace it). You should be running better. Also check all vacuum hoses. That is those thin ones that lead to and fro on the intake manifold/carburator. Make sure they are not cracked on the ends or rock hard...and that they fit on super tight. If loose, then nip off the last 3/4 inch and reinsert on fresh rubber. I can't think of anything else at the moment that would be causing you grief.
