My 1998 Ford Taurus V6 SE engine gradually revs up when i shift it from drive to park?

Whats the possible problem, if i can pinpoint it, i could do the repair work myself. Your answers would be much appreciated
it keeps revving up without any pressure on the accelerator and wont stop unless i turn the car off
