my 1998 Chevrolet dies out while driving sometimes?

ok i have a 1998 Chevrolet Cheyenne k1500 4x4 5.7l vortec 350 and when i take off from a stop slowly it dies out but starts right back up every time but if i stomp on it from a take off it will go with out dying out.it has good gas and a new fuel filter in it any idea what the problem might be?
 
the alternator perhaps.
test out the battery.
if the car can hold charge with just the battery it's the alternator. if not, try it the other way around and then it might be the alternator.
