I understand that your 1996 ford escort 2 years ago would not go into first or reverse well your problem is your transmission is bad. Now what you have to do is either find a place that will look at it and repair it for you which might cost you about 3,000 dollar or try to find a brand new one that will cost you over 3,000 dollars. I would say your best best is to just junk that car and sell the good parts for money and get a new car.
