My 1994 jeep grand cherokee has no spark.?

The Jeep is a 5.2L. It's started hard ever since I got it. But lately I've been having to turn the key on and leave it on for a few minutes and it would start right up. But now it just cranks. It used to make a clicking sound, That came from the (shut off rely?) tried replacing it but did nothing. also the check engine light would flash on and off with the rely and then come on and stay on until it started..
