I just recently bought a 1982 yamaha virago XV920. It has been sitting in this guys yard for 11 years. It is all there it even had the spark plugs in it. I brought it home and put it in the garage after cleaning 11 years of crap off of it. I took the starter out to check if it was good which it is. It doesn't have any dead spots in it and is in great condition. I then proceeded to see if the motor would turn over all my tests said it is seized. I hooked it up to my dads chevy tracker and pulled it behind for a few minutes while in gear to try and free it up. I put a fair amount of penetrating fluid in the spark plug holes 2 days prior. The rear wheel turned while in gear however the pistons did not move. I put a compression gage in each cylinder and recived no reading. I placed a braker bar on the clutch nut and tried to break it free using a ratchet type movement, but to no avail. I shot penetrating fluid on all the gears and nuts, but it's still not free. I looked into the spark plug hole with a flash light and I saw what I think was a fair amount of corrosion. The oil is of normal color and there was the right ammount in the bike. I need opinions and advice as to get this bike running. The seizure is the only problem that I have right now. I can't check anything else with the engine seized. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and answer it is all greatly appreciated.

Time for an engine tear-down and rebuild, and most likely top end replacement. The rust inside has probably ruined the cylinders.

I have had the 750 completely apart and back together running- I can tell you it is the most convoluted design ever. If you can't get the pistons to move, It probably will not come apart. You got the tire to move because the final drive has a "clutch" safety built into it in case the motor seizes going down the hi-way at 100mph. Shop for a complete motor. And then get rid of all the "no start" safety switches that will drive you nuts. They are under the seat.

Put it on craigslist as a project and then buy yourself something that runs. Building a top end on that bike can be done, but it may not be worth it, in terms of money.
