Hello,
I am so glad that I found this site. My poor son has been wheezing for a month now. He wheezes when he breathes in and has a wheeze followed by a gurgle sound when he breaths out. We have been to the doctor every 3 days for a month, have been to the ER at CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia), had a chest x-ray done (clear) and have been on numerous meRAB. He has been on predisone for 3 weeks, two courses of antibiotics, prevacid because CHOP believes his wheezing is caused by stomach acid. It has also been thought that he has a RSV virus. He has been on Ventolin 90 mg inhaler through a spacer - 4 puRAB every 4 hours for a week. Before that he was on the nebulizer 3 times a day. Even with the 4 puRAB every 4 hours - That was only controlling him but he still had wheezing all of the time. We have now been using the Ventolin, but 2 puRAB every 6 because he was so shaky before. He also takes two puRAB of advair twice a day and singulair. All of this and my son still wheezes and coughs this horrible mucus cough. He has never ever had anything like this before in his life! The pediatrician and the allergist are both stumped and said they have done everything they could for him. The pediatrician said he should have been better by this time. We are awaiting to see a Phonologist on Deceraber 30th at CHOP. This is the earliest I could get (Feb. 11 was the first appointment, but I went to CHOP in person. My pediatrician is calling to see if we can get in earlier. The doctor's have said that he is moving air and his oxygen levels are 97/98. Have any of you ever heard of wheezing lasting this long? I am very worried about his wheezing for this long. Any in site is greatly appreciated. We are going to the doctor again on Friday the 27th of Noveraber, (pediatrician).
