my 01 honda civic makes a "thump" sound when i accelerate?

like i said. in a standing point, when i accelerate my car makes a couple of thumping noises. if i accelerate quickly it does a louder thump. if i accelerate very very slow the thump isnt that loud-or it doesnt do it at all.
i was reading online that it seems like symptoms of a broken engine mount? Im not sure what it is. what do you guyz think it is? and it it is that- how much does it cost?
 
if the thump occurs when the transmission shifts it is likely that the problem is a broken engine mount. as the engine revs up prior to a shift the torque of the engine causes the engine to twist towards the rear of the engine compartment. when the clutch is depressed or when the automatic transmission shifts, the torque is released and the engine snaps back. the engine mounts absorb the movement. if the thump or clunk only happens on shift points then that's a real possibility.

a Honda dealer will charge about $150 to replace a broken mount.

if the noise happens at points other than shifts, look to the constant velocity joints in the drive axles, or to an exhaust system that is moving around and hitting the underside of the car.

try to narrow down the conditions under which the noise occurs; what gear the transmission is in, whether it happens on shifts or not, what the vehicle speed is, what the engine speed is, if the noise is coming from the front, middle or rear of the car, if the noise is coming from the left side, right side or middle. things like that help narrow down the possible causes.
