My 01 Dodge Ram just stopped on the freeway, just shut off while I was driving?

I thought I might have ran outta GAS but I had a lil more then 1/4 of a tank. I got it towed and the truck driver said from what i have told him it could be the FUEL PUMP. But he is a truck driver not a mech......IDK what to do!!! its sitting in the driveway. I dnt want to get a new fuel pump and that not be the problem. What do yall think?
