Mustand Solo

I was looking at seats today and was wondering. Can you get a solo seat from mustang and still use the stock passenger seat? I'm not being a cheap boyfriend or anything, but she just doesn't go with me on my really long rides. If she starts going on the 200+ milers I'll get her one too. ;) but till then, will just a solo go with the oem rear seat?

You can get the C50T driver seat, which looks like the mustang seat, and has gell pads. The passenger seats do not have Gel Pads in them anyway, you would have to buy one with a Gel Pad. You can also just get a mustang driver seat, look on ebay.

The Mustang seat comes with a bracket that bolts to the existing seat holes and the seat itself sits back further up the fender. So the standard pass. seat will not work with the Mustang.

Yeah, sure, but you can just put a bolt in the hole, or get the luggage rack to cover what the passenger seat doesn't. They make those curved chrome racks to replace the passenger seat.

They also have a COMPLETE mustage Passenger and Driver Combo, expensive.

The rear seat doesn't really bolt in up front, it tongs in, and then the strap goes around it, then the rear bolt, kind of scary when you think that setup holds enough weight for a passenger...

Well, this might suck. I ordered the solo today. lol. My girlfriend might get a bit upset in a couple of weeks when she gets to ride with me again. lol. I'll order the rear one soon then.

Are there other alternatives to the mustang seats?

Someone mention the C90T seat are different/better then the stock C50 ?

Is that true, how cheaper would be a C90T front seat vs. Mustang solo seat ?

Has anyone tried to improve the C50 stock seat by adding a gel pad or more foam ?

I'm going to go down the road to this foam shop and get some of the hospital grade foam and repad my stock seat once the mustang gets in. Just to see if i can do it and if it will make a difference. I'll let you know when i get finished. I think one of the big problems with the stock c50 seat is that there is very little pad on top of the mounting bracket on the back. next time you have your seat off give that little section a squeeze. The problem is, that's right where my tailbone rides the whole time. Hence the pain in the rump after a bit. I think padding it in different areas would make for a huge improvement for me. Then the geometry comes into play. I just lowered the bike yesterday (2 inches). Now I'm going to try to design up some forward controls to allow me to stretch out a bit more. I'll let you know if they make a big difference.

I am really looking for ward to your results since this issue is turning into a big dilema for me...

I just came from a 180mi non-stop ride today, and I don't think my tailbone can take another round like this without having some type of permanent damage...

The sat thing, is that just because you buy a custom seat means that it will be any better. ON the SV, I spent $200 on a Gel custom seat to replace the stock seat and after 200mi on the Gel seat, I had to switch it back to the stock seat which turned out to be a little better then the custom seat...

So, I am really concerned about forking out $500 for a mustang seat and not to like it afterwards... At the dealer there was a used bike that had a mustang seat, it was too stiff, too hard, almost seemed like it had no cushing... So it makes me wonder....

Like you said, the problem with the stock seat on the C50, is that it has a hole, and empty area where there is no support, and because the bike is taller in the front and shorter in the back, you tend to slide to that empty hold on the seat where there is no support. Is like you are not sitting on your butt meat, but on the tail bone... I wonder if that whole seat gets full of foam if and a bit flater surface it that will make a difference...

Anyways, new seat and saddle bags is an order, I need it...

Anyone else has any other seat suggestions...

Regards...

I am afraid of the Suzuki OEM Gel seat. That is the same seat I got for the SV and in that case the stock seat turned out better then the Gel one, the Suziki Gel seats are too stiff, you bounce off the seat alone...

But the biggest problem is the hole in the middle of these seats, why can they make a flat seat for this bike... I copy one of the images for the previous poster to illustrate the problem with the hole...

As you can see, between the two bikes, why do the C50 needs to have such a sink hold in the middle of the seat. What that does, is limit your ability to rest your weight on the meat of you butt and instead you are resting on tail bone of your back, that is painful...

look at the bike behind, it has a more flatter surface that is much more comfortable.

I wonder what you all think of this seat here:

I wonder if would this be comfortable... I like the skiny portion that rolls all the way to the back.... That will allow me to carry a bookbag/backpack without the fear of scratching the paint on the bald fender...

I see your point about being hesitant, especially with negative results before, just thought I might throw it out there, as it did change the sitting position for the better (in my case anyway) and is more comfortable.

I tried riding with one of my sofa cushing pillow on top of the seat, but I think my ass still sensitive from all the punishment on Saturday. The the extra cushing, the ride was a bit softer, but still my tail bone was still hurting...

ONe thing I notice is that the extra cushing added extra height, which put my head above the windshield and that was not kool... Without the cushing I kind off can make myself hide under the windshild, but with the extra cushing the draft was right on my face...

If God would have given me an extra inch of height, I woud still be a shorty but would portrait as a tall man. Instead I have to settle for being a shorty at 5'7. The problem I have with that is, that I am consider a shorty, but I don't get all the benefits of a shorty, I can't hide behind my windshield so I catch all the draft while on the bike, but then I am a shorty when off the bike...

I wish I would had play sports when I was a teen, I could have squeze an extra few inches that way... Well, at least I can flat food at red lights even when I had the SV which is a tall bike, the C50 has never been a chalenge at all...

So i put the mustang on the bike and took it for a short spin. It's a definite improvement on the butt padding material. The buzz vibration I usually feel was gone. YES! BUT the back part of it that supports your back(?) could use some redesigning. I'm not a tiny guy and it kinda gets in those handles. Maybe a little breaking in is in order. I'm gonna rip (carefully remove) the cover of the stock seat and repad it. Hopefully I'll end up with two amazingly awesome seats.
