On my advice, my dad picked up a plasma from BB last week. The promotion (likely a BB mistake - it was a little too good to be true) was honored, and included a Bell 9200 HD-PVR. Now, they made him sign a 2 year contract.

If you purchased the unit for $599, would you be forced to do the same? Can you simply walk into BB, purchase a 9200, and walk out?

Regardless where you buy it new clients have to sign a 1 year or 2 years contract. With a 1 year contract you have to pay the installation, and get no promo, but with a 2 years contract you get the installation done free of charge and als the new client's promo (months free or service discount)

All I needed to know. Thank you.

BTW, I read your thread. In the past, I've had so much help from employees of media companies like Bell and Rogers who take part in online forums such as this one. Even when they aren't answering my question, I learn something. In the end, no good deed goes unpunished.

My father got the Bell receiver for free with his TV so he's a new subscriber, but I'm not so encombered. Problem is, I find Rogers just as hateful as Bell, and even more clueless (flaky Internet, sending me to a collection agency for a 25-day-old invoice...). StarChoice, here we come.
