MUSIC PRODUCING HELP?

this is for people who know how to produce good sound, i use logic studio 8 for mac so take that into account. Now i know how to bring my tracks to life, in which i mean making them louder when i export them and not so low volume that they are way off from normally produced tracks. But here is where i have trouble, i dont know where to draw the line with too MUCH volume and compression, is there a certain limit that i should go to on all the seperate instrument tracks so that they dont flare and sound distorted when you turn the volume up on your speaker, and if there is how do i still make it sound loud enough to be professional without putting TOO MUCH compression and TOO HIGH of a volume, thank you very much to useful answerers i REALLY need help with this
