Music problem with my iphone 3gs?

Ok when i play a song on shuffle nd i go back to see the other songs with the same beginning letter it turns out its all the way up back to the shuffle. Instead of putting shuffle i play a song from the letter it goes all the way back up again. what do i do to make it stay where the song is suppose to be instead of it going all the way back up to shuffle
