muscle aches, spasms, pins and needles - HELP!

Can Anyone help. Last November (2008) I had a experience of feeling unwell one day. The following day, while out and about, I had the strangest feeling of extreme nervousness and shakes. Felt dizzy and generally unwell. For the next three day's I found it very difficult to hold or write with a pen in my right hand. The strength in my hand gradually came back (but I believe never 100%) but then I started to suffer with 'head pressure' at my temple area. Not head aches just pressure. Every morning over this period I would wake up in the morning and my first experience would be severe pins and needles from my elbows to my wrist area. When I stood up this would disappear quickly and be replaced by the head pressure for the rest of the day. My doctor referred me to a neurologist who sent me for CT MRI and Spinal scans. All came back normal except for a herniated disc (high up) in my back which he said should not be causing me these problems. He diagnosed me with migraines and put me on a course of Amatryptoline for several weeks.

Felt better for a few weeks until 4 weeks ago when ( after finishing up the amatryp for about 3 weeks) I started to have muscle spasms all over my legs. Went back to the Nuero and had a EMG performed. He also gave me a full physical and dexterity exam and said my responses and strength were perfect. The EMG came back normal. He diagnosed me with BFS and said I should not worry about it.

Since then the muscle twitches have gone up to my upper body and on to my face. I also suffer from the strangest sporadic 'aches' on the backs of my arms and in the calves of my legs. This is after a full nights sleep and no exercise at all! These aches come from nowhere, leaving it painful to walk, and then a couple of days later disappear like they were never there.

Can anyone help....... All this is really getting me down and I feel like I am never going to be my 'old self' again.

One more thing. I am tired all the time and sleep or rest does not help this at all.

Are you taking any medications? Sometimes medications can cause these symptoms and doctors don't acknowledge it. Statins, for lowering cholesterol, are particularly guilty, as are some BP meds. Hope you get some help.

I suggest that you get that MRI result of your spine, including herniated disc, and post the info. on the spinal cord board, along with some of those symtoms. You should be able to get some answers there as your symptoms seem spinal.

Have you had your Vitamin D levels checked?? I have had similiar feelings the twitches, anxiety, general unwellness...and my vitamin D levels have been terriably low for 2 years. I am working on bringing that level up. I finally figured out why I couldn't get it up into the normal level and that is because two of my hormone levels were low. Because those have been low I could NOT absorb the D. It has been SO frustrated figuring this whole big puzzle out. But I am on my way.

I would seriously check out your vitamin D levels and your hormones. All of these are so very important and if they are off you can feel TERRIABLE! I even went and had all the tests run on me at a neurologist because I was afraid I had MS or ALS. She diagnosed me with Benign Muscle Fasiculations. I still have the muscle twitching on and off. It drives me nuts!! I have it today too. Just remember you can get that from caffeine and Sudefed. Alot of allergy meds cause this.

Good luck! You will be fine!
