I must confess I am a chatterbox so I have been talking to my my daughter (now 19 months) since before she was born. I used to talk to my bump when I went to bed about the things I had done that day, lol! When she was tiny I talked to her all the time, pointing things out as we walked along and even reading out the shopping list in the supermarket. I enjoyed doing it and it has certainly paid off - she can now talk in four word sentences, lol!
What worries me though, is when I see mums and dads not talking to their babies at all. We were in the park the other day and there was a mum there with a boy of about 7-8 months. He was trying to crawl and pointing up at the trees and the sky etc but I swear she didn't say one word to him in the 45 minutes that we were there! The poor boy was trying to communicate with her and she just ignored him and read a magazine! I don't understand this at all and I have seen it time and time again when I am out with my daughter. How do they expect their babies to get to understand words and sentence structure if they don't talk to them?
What do other mums think about this? Opinions please!
Perfectly flawed - my thoughts exactly! I can't believe that anything in her magazine was more interesting than the little person sitting next to her, so it seems very lazy to me.
