Multiple Receivers on One Remote?

Howdy,

I currently own a 6100, hooked to my plasma (via component). I'd like to buy a 4100 (used, if possible) to hook up to the plasma so I can watch/record at the same time, and use PiP. I also intend to run coax around my condo to allow two other televisions to watch what is on the 4100.

My question is - is there a way to program the 6100 remote to work the 4100? I know the UHF Pro won't work with the 4100, but can the IR feature of the 6100 remote work the 4100 when pointed at it?

(As a side question - is this a decent solution in the first place?)
 
Don't think so - vaguely recall trying this myself several years ago with a 3100 (same scenario - one TV with two receivers connected for PIP/recording purposes) and couldn't get it to work. Only mode button on the 6100 that I presumed would work is the AUX mode button, so I tried programming it with various codes for STBs from the 6100 manual and none worked with the 3100. I don't remember if I tried to program the AUX button without a 3/4 digit code (or, for that matter, if you can even program a 6100 remote that way). One possible explanation as to why you can't do this is you'd need to have the same "remote address" for both the 6100 and 3100, such that you'd change both receivers every time you pressed a button on the remote - the 6100 does accept signals from IR remotes.
 
I think a 9100 would do exactly what you want, with ease.

From your description, I don't see how you would record anything.?

The 4100 remote will also work the 6100 as both accept IR....
 
I have a Samsung DVD recorder with Time Slip. The PVR would be just as redunant as the second tuner.
 
UHF Pro remotes can be programmed on the AUX button to control another receiver. I don't know if this will work with the 6100 remote or the 4100 receiver. The best solution may be to get a programmable universal remote such as a Harmony or All-in-One remote.

The major issue is that no UHF remote will allow control of the 4100 from another room because it uses IR and not UHF. IR extenders will be required in the other rooms or a receiver that uses a UHF remote must be purchased. Considering the issues, it may be worthwhile purchasing another 6100 instead.

Buying used EV receivers is not usually a good idea. There are a lot of used receivers sold that are missing the smart card, have been hacked or don't work properly. Unless you know the seller and that the receiver is in good working order, it is usually better to buy directly from Bell.
