and you're being tried for something your ancestors did. This goes against your sense of justice, but that is the law of the Kingdom and therefore you must comply. The crime was most horrible, even more terrible than murder, but you don't quite understand what it was. Still, the nominal punishment for it is death.
The Judge (who is also the King of the realm) is just about to pronounce you guilty, when a stranger steps forth from the audience and offers to take your place. The Judge, deeply moved by his action, pronounces he wants to change the law. Keeping in mind that the Judge wants the best for everyone, what should be the Judge's first actions after his change of heart?
A) Ignore the stranger, execute you and then change the law
B) Execute the stranger instead, and then change the law
C) Change the law first, so that nobody need be executed
D) Disregard his previous change of heart, execute the stranger, and only reverse the law for those that believe the stranger exists. For the rest of them, even those born in the distant future, it's business as usual.
Re-asked due to popular demand.
? Josh Alfred ? - Oh, yes it would. Remember that the Judge is also the King, who is able to change the laws at will.
??Only? By ??Grace?? - So, you would pick D), correct? If not, how does your position differ from it?
