Hey all you great supporters i have a mystery for myself maybe you can help with? Has anyone had an MRI of their pelvic to diagnosis back pain and or leg/nerve pain? I had this done Sat. but they went from my upper abdomen to my end of pelvic area and i am wondering what they may be looking for. The Radiologist or whoever did it asked why i might be having this done and asked if i have other MRI's and i said yes and she said ahha like meaning thats why because they can't seem to find the cause. The reason they did the upper abdomen is because i told her i have alot problems there also and not sure why such as swelling fullness. Would they be able to deteect anything there as well? Also i thought the nurse had said they were gonna use dye but the only thing she did was put this thing over my abdomen and pelvis, why this maybe? To see things better? My sister inlaw also stated it feels like my spleen or my pancres seems enlarges,i think she said pancreas ugh. But she just plain said something doesn't seem right. I can't wait to find the results out ugh. Anyway anyon have this done and what were they looking for?

When I had my first MRI, it was of my lower spine ( i think it was a lurabo-sacral mri). That came back with a bunch of problems, the main being stenosis. I started PT and shortly after starting, my rheumys office called me to come in right away. All of a sudden he sent me for another MRI of the sacrioliliac area. He had mentioned he wanted this to check for AS, but on that MRI it also mentioned as a side note that I had bilateral ovarian cysts and some free fluid. I never had pain in my ovary areas, though, it was all in my back, rear, legs, etc...and I had been waiting for this doc to give me spine surgeon's names. Then he told me to go to the gyno first to investigate the cysts, it seemed he was thinking that might be causing some problems (though I knew it wasnt, plus my first MRI clearly showed the severity of my stenosis and DDD). So I did have the gyno look into it & my gyno right away didnt think the cysts were anything. She said it's normal & for many people, they come & go all the time & if wasnt having any pain it was probably nothing. But she did tests on me anyway & sure enough it turned out to be nothing. I did end up having another problem though, but now finally as of recently that has turned up being okay and that never caused me pain either. So I do know that on some MRI's they can happen to see things in other areas, but if something is suspicious, they usually do an MRI for that particular area. I also had MRI's of my hips done, and that also incidentally showed some of the cysts, but I dont think a doc would use the spine or hip MRI to investigate a gyno issue. I think they would get a more specific MRI or other test for the pelvic region.

justone, like i said they have already ruled this out and my cysts only come and go and thats why they ruled it out as a cause of pain. Now i'm not saying this isn't maybe makeing it more diffult on a certain day but it sure isn't the cause of my dreams being shattered and i am not gonna sit back and have my life wither away and stick with the thought of being permately down for no reason they cannot find, it is really literally becoming a pain for me at this young age and i'm sick of it ruing everything for me. I gotta go before i flip(yeah right).

Im sorry. You apparently completely misunderstood my post. It was not meant to upset you at all.

My example was about me and not that they were looking for ovarian cysts on you specifically, as you already stated that was not an issue. I was merely illustrating an example and used my own history to do so. But if they are doing an MRI on another part of your anatomy not of your spine, they would be looking for other causes not related to your spine that might be causing you pain. That is all I meant.

Unfortunately, the doctors are still quite baffled by the central nervous system and how our brain and nerves work and act. As much as they have learned and advanced over the last 15 years, there is still so much they still dont know. And unfortunately we are having issues now.

So with that, it sometimes takes the process of elimination to narrowing down what could possibly be causing us so much pain.

I also did not mean to give you the impression that you should sit back and let the world pass you by and just sit and do nothing. I never believe that.. just the opposite. Fight, and never stop fighting to be free of your pain. Also, Be a sponge.. the more you know the better you are able to help yourself. In all of my postings I strongly encourage everyone to be in charge of their care, as it's the persons body, not the doctors. You have to be your own advocate.

The not knowing is hard and exhausting. I meant for you to just take a moment to just exhale and relax some. As in give yourself a break for moment. It was a comment from an old hat at this that has been where you are. I know how it feels "not" knowing.

I herniated a disc at age 18, just 4 months into my marriage. I did not have insurance back then and I was not properly seen by a doctor either. I saw a chiro and he made me worse. I understand what is like to be young and incapacitated and in extreme pain like you are right now. I suffered for over 15 years with that one before it stopped hurting constantly. And I had many pain free times through those years as well. And two kiRAB which I was told not to have. They are now grown.

Life will get better for you and you should hold onto that promise of a better day, everyday. I believe the glass is never half empty but at least half full.;)

baybrezze,

I was actually having pain though so yes they had to rule this out as well for me.

I have also had this ruled out as well.So with the pelvic MRI they could be ruling out the sacrioliliac area or the hip area ? I am just trying to figure out what they would do this for that would have to do with the back and or nerves? The main reason i was ordered to have this done also was due to having bowel issues and leg nurabness hand in hand, so not having a chance to call the office before hand to see what exactly they might have been looking for amd wondering why they would due this for these issues relating to the back, but i guess at the latest i will know what they ruled in or out! I guess i am just wondering if they can actually find anything related to the back in doing this pelvic MRI.

justoneof us,you did not upset me at all, i have already been upset as you know thats something we go through and i understood your post it just makes me so angry that the dr.s don't know that much if you know what i mean and it maybe was just a waste to have that test done if their just gonna come back and tell me my back problem is due to the cysts. I swear if they do and i do need to go back to obyn then i'm gonna just tell them to take the ovaries out and then they won't be there to assume anymore right;) I just get very cranky on certain days as well as you know because we have to deal with this! I am glad though your surgery was a success! I'm sure it wasn't a hundred percent but hopefully better than before because i have seen many struggle and not get relief afterwarRAB because treatment was delayed, and or maybe i'm just being a baby because if they don't find whatever i did to do this then i won't get any relief! Its just doesn't make sense and i know that sometimeslife isn't a bowel cherries but i used to as many work,do social activites with enjoyment and no pain and then i am going about my business one day and bang your done you can't do this or that anymore. I think what it comes down to is the car accident or the fall and and or the fall just induced it which at the time they kept telling me you a** out and haha and then later found out not but too late, although not sure if it would have made things better or not. Anyhow enough rarabling, i was afraid you would think i was upset about the post but i wanted to assure it wasn't that and sorry if i came out that way, i really need councling, but i need to find a new and improved one of those who can understand in the drop of a hat that i have five kiRAB and pain and sometimes i just can't make it ugh.
Take care,Monkey

I think if you're having a pelvic MRI, they would be looking for something in that specific area. However, it might be possible that something else in a surrounding area might show up. I dont think you would be prescribed a pelvic MRI to check your spine or hips.

Exactly. IF they are doing a pelvic MRI on you or other areas not related to the spine, they are looking for other causes of pain NOT related to your back/spine, but may be causing you pain in some way. They are looking for other causes and to rule out things.

An example which I mentioned in an earlier post, was that they did a pelvic mri on me and they found a large cyst on one of my ovaries. It was large enough in size that they contemplated doing emergency surgery to remove it, but chose to watch me carefully and see if meRAB would take care of it. (it worked) Something that large was creating a great deal of pressure on everything else around it, including my lower spine. But the issue was not related to the spine in anyway. It was just aggrevating the spine issue just a bit more, because the cyst was crowding everything else down there some.

Exhale and try and relax some. Trying to figure out things takes awhile. We spineys must become the most patient of people while the docs do or dont do their role in helping us find the source of our pains.

Hang in there.

Well thanks for posting that.. it looks like it was me that misunderstood you! lol. Im glad you were not upset with me. This crap is indeed frustrating.

And yes, I am 85% improved. Sometimes when I get flared up though, I do get the moment of OMG.. not again. But on the whole, I am doing pretty good so far. I still have that bulging disc at l5/s1 that wasn't giving me pain up to the surgery point, and with the hardware and fusion above, it may decide to not play nice and I may be back to square one again at any given point. So I am a good girl most of the time and am careful about what I do and how much I do. I am hoping to avoid further issues, but the fact I've had issues since age 18, I doubt my back issues will ever be over. But I will continue to fight to feel good and lead as much of a normal life as I possibly can.

Hopefully your ovaries will be doing what they are supposed to and behave during their photo shoot! lol. Let me know how you make out.

Hang in there. I
