MRI completed, now what?

I just got an MRI done on the 14th, results are Disc L5 and S1 , have a herniated disc of 11mm on the posterior vertebrae, geussing next step is to see specialist and start with injections to see if that will take down the swelling? Do you think injections will work? If not what would you think the next step would be? and how long of a recovery if any would you guess it will take? Thank for you responsive help. Michael

the disc is actually herniated, 11mm, posterior....pressing on the nerve causing foot and partial leg nurabness....muscle for dorsal flexion is not there, can not flex foot upwarRAB, no power whatsoever....hoping injections may give some relief....seeing the specialist on friday the 22nd.....see what his recommendations are....?
 
Yes, Mike. Your next step should be to see a spine specialist. If you are already seeing him, has he indicated that he will send you for an injection?

As for the injections themselves, they work on some people and others get little to no relief, tho I think the majority get at least some pain relief. As for the next step, well, your doctor will have a better idea of what he might think will be helpful. If your problem is the bulging disc and it is not pressing on a nerve, you have a good chance of getting the relief from the injections.

Not sure what you are referring to as far as "recovery". If you are talking about the injection, you should just take it easy for a couple of days.

Mike, the foot and partial leg nurabness is concerning. When a nerve is compressed too long, it can become permanently damaged. Be sure to discuss this with the neurosurgeon.

If he recommenRAB surgery, get a second opinion, perhaps from an Orthopedic Spine Specialist. If they agree, then at least you will have the knowledge that it is necessary.

I'm supposed to have a 2 level fusion on the 21st and will not be on the boarRAB for a while, of course. But as soon as I am able, I will check in to see what your ns recommeded and what is next for you. I do wish you the best of luck.

thanks for the advice, and good luck on your fusion on the 21st. hope all goes well and talk to you soon........I am seeing the spine specialist on friday the 22nd, and will see what he thinks......thanks and good luck.....
