MR2 MKI tail lights intermittently on due to brake pedal slightly depressing. How do I

resolve it? I have a 1987 MR2 (Mark I). Every so often, the brake pedal depresses ever so slightly (without being touched) that it causes the tail lights to go on. This makes it unsafe to drive since other drivers may think I'm hitting my brakes. My workaround was to drive with one foot on the gas while the other lifted the brake pedal. Needless to say, that got annoying so I stopped driving the car altogether.

The other problem that it causes is that when it occurs while the car is parked, it will drain out my batteries. (Sometimes if I lift the brake pedal up it will stop. Other times it may depress again within a few hours).

My friend says it's either a faulty switch or spring, but I don't know where to look to locate it (don't have a manual). Does anyone have an idea of what parts I should look for and replace? A diagram would help immensely!
