Kevin, follow the instructions, you shouldn't have a problem. If you read them, it states NOT to put them into any particular folder. The Explorer folder will show your memory card and the phone memory. Don't put them into either or, just put your .dm file under those folders. The phone will holla at you asking you were to put this. Put it with what ever option it gives you. Then once your done and have disconnected the phone, go find that file and then place it in the "Ringtones" folder in your phone memory. It's that easy.

Holla if you have more questions.

Sorry for going so far back in time, but I have the same problem as 'singingtiger19' ["Could not create a DRM subfolder in the original content folder!"]. I have installed and uninstalled multiple times on both Vista and XP systems (using DRM Packager 1.35). I have found no reference to this problem anywhere else. I can't even get to the real meat of this process. I have tried having the original content in avariety of places including right on desktop, In all cases, I am the Administrator for the OS. I have tracked down and deleted application data, program data and files in the "Program Files" folder before reinstalling. Has anyone else seen and resolved this problem?

Sorry, what I meant was it says the "file(s) protected successfully", but the file doesn't show up in the folder I directed it to. Does anyone know where the problem is? Thanks!

I have att and have had NO problem making and using ringtons for my g/f's phone. I used the instructions that were first posted

I opened the mp3 in sony sound forge and cut it down to 30 sec
saved to a 128 bitrate mp3 format
used the drm and set it up as posted by dalton
bluetoothed it over to the phone and it worked.

Hi i am just confused. Can anyone explain explain the right steps for downloding MP3 ringtones for W580i?

Ok. So I have the ringtone on my phone. I have it in the Ring Tunes folder. I can only play the damn thing. When I go to "MORE", it tells me "cannot set this file as a Ring Tune" :(
I thought I did all of the DRM stuff correctly. It's a ringtone...downloaded as a ringtone...it's tiny...Now, please be aware I have NO understanding of computers so use small kitten sized words here ok.
However, when I did the DRM thing....I couldn't actually cut and paste the tune. So I got annoyed and just dragged the file from my desktop onto my phone directly (in phone mode) and it went onto the phone where it sits in my ringtunes folder mocking me. :flamemad: Now what? I'm as red as my friggin phone.
Also..how do I know if it's a wav thing?? Or is that what the DRM thing changes it to?? Anyone??

Get out! Really? I'll try that tonight. I've heard mention of this sony sound forge or wotever but haven't looked that up yet. Maybe I should see what that's all about too. Thanks for the tip. I have a converter that I used to use with some other phones and hopefully it will work here too.
Cheers and thanks,
Dina

All the steps with creating the .dm file worked great but I am having a problem with sending it to my phone using MyPhoneExplorer...

While I'm uploading the dm file to my phone it gives me an error..

"Error During Upload:.dm
OBEX Errorcode: 00 - Phone didn't answer"

The upload comes to a hault and the file doesn't get transfered...
any ideas on that one?

I've also tried to transfer the file to my phone without the "MyPhoneExplorer" program and it does send the file to my phone but it doesn't give me the option to make it a ringtone, it just puts it in my "others" folder in my phone and doesn't let me utilize it as anything... :(

Hi Dalton.

First off I think you are awesome for doing all of this for us un-computer savy people.

I understood and got all the way through the file altering... but my computer doesn't recognize my cell phone when it is in phone mode... so I am now lost... help?

Thanks!

Dalton,

I did EVERY step you listed and when I go to transfer the completed drm file. it says 'error: could not copy'

I tried a bunch of different files, and I made sure they were all below 60 KB ( I heard somewhere that they had to be...) but nothing works... I just get the smae error message

What do i do? :(:(

I've followed your instructions on "How to" MP3 your Ringtones for the W580i" but i keep ending up at the same problem, same for my friend, you said to make a save point for the .dm file, i made mine document...../music/ but when i checked I don't see any .dm files, is that suppose ot happen? I do see a .dm file in a DRM folder that is automaticlly created, but if I try to move that under my memory card and phone memory folders, it says it can't be copied...D: help please, both me and my friend want to use our own ringtones T.T

thanks for reading and helping

ATT did not block this. I have att and I have made ringtones for my g/f's w580i phone with no problems. They up load just fine and play just as well. you are probably doing something wrong somewhere.

Hello. Thanks for these great instructions, however I am having some trouble transferring the file to my phone. . I was able to transfer to my phone however when I try to select to use as a ringtone it does not allow me to highlight that option, it says cannot be used as a ringtone? what did I do wrong? Thank you

Mike
