MP3 Player HELP!! Not sure if I need to buy a memory card for it to download songs.?

Ok...so I bought this 16GB MP3 player and I've used an MP3 Player before. So I'm trying to copy and paste the songs into the music file (like I've always done on other players), but it's not showing up! I noticed it has a flash drive opening in the bottom of it. Is it possible that I have to buy a memory card to make it work??
