Moving BEV Service to new town and house.

I will be moving to a new house on June 28 weekend. I went to Bell's site to look into what needs to be done for this to take place. The checklist page is unavailable. I currently rent a 9200 and own 2 3100's. Will there be a charge for having this installed at the new home? Do I need to take the dish with me? It was professionally installed by my local A/V shop that sells bell and I really like the installer. Can I get him to do it then call Bell?

I have a pretty high priced package right now. I thought I had read that its free installation when u move but the website is not giving me the proper info.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. Not sure why i couldn't find it on the site.

I guess I have to pay extra for my other 3100's to be installed. So basically i don't need to bring anything but my receivers. No switches or anything. Weird.

How reliable are these install appointments if I call now. I have heard some horror stories.

Hi Quick Silva, the official line we get, and we are Installers, is that you are entitled to a New Dish and all the LNBF's / Switch's that were at your previous residence, for free.

The Move Promotion will cover, Installation of Dish, LNBF's and 1 receiver. In your case the 9200, this will be done for Free, providing you have not moved in the last 6 Months and had a Free Move Offer on that occasion.

You should also get the back-feed from the 9200 provided Free, this is a very sore point for Installers as they do not get paid by Express Vu for this and try to avoid running it.

The other receivers will be charged at $50 per line.

NOTE: If you only have the 9200 installed, the Technician most likely will install the SW44 at the rear of the Dish, meaning you will need a ladder to run your other 2 lines. For $100 it is sometimes Worth having him run all your lines, don't forget this will then all be covered under the Installation Warranty.

The way it works for appointments is very hard to predict. The Installers only see the next Days Work, they have no visibility beyond that. Also your call may well just come out as a Moving Promo, with no indication as to how many receivers are involved. 90 Minutes are allowed for a Move Promo, so if he arrives and finds a 9200 & 2 x 3100's he is looking at 3 plus hours work.

My advice is book an AM appointment but be available All Day, if the Tech is running late, he should call to advise you.

If you have several service with Bell you may be an HVC (High Value Customer), ask the CSR if this applies to you. As an HVC, if you book an AM appointment, it will be the first call of the Day. PM is a bit more vague, Tech will be there as early in the PM as possible.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck

Forgot to say, ensure that you have TV's in each room where service is going.
Ensure you take receivers with you on one of your first trips and have them available for the Technician, along with Remotes etc.

No Receivers and no TV's, the Tech is advised by Express Vu to "Walk Away" from the call.

Great Info guys. I really appreciate the help during this kind of stressful time of having every service to my old house moved.

I called my local A/V dealer who handled my Bell install originally. He is getting me a price on his installer doing the work. I have no other services with Bell because of where I live in Nova Scotia...no phone and no internet only with Aliant a subsidiary of Bell but not recognized as having those services.

I will see what the charge will be if I get them to do the work. I assume if I do then he or I can just call to get the service billing address changed at that point.

TO be on the safe side, I would take the switches with you if you can. There are a number of other threads on the topic and it is unclear if you will be charged for replacements. If you take them, then there is no question. Best to avoid the issue altogether.

Personally I've never had an issue with an installer (although they only had to come once for the 9200 rental install - I did all the others myself). Same as any other service call (plumber, phone, etc) , good advise posted above. Morning appointments higher a higher success rate for being on time since the installer never knows what they will be faced with at other prior locations.

The more you do to prepare and get things the way you want them the better.

In my case I did all the wiring and dish installs myself. The installer only had to unpack the 9200 from the box and plug in the cables. :)

Well I called this morning and they said it would be an extra $100 for the other 2 3100's I have. Also it would be $89.00 for a switch.

So I called the installer that orginally setup the system and he will do the whole thing for $150.00 and we are going to take my dish and switch off the house. He is really good and I know the job will be done correctly. Here in NS the installers have a 3 hour drive to get to my new house so I don't want to take the chance that the guy will forget anything. Thanks for all the info guys.

Glad it worked out.

As usually it appears that Express Vu, or to be accurate you did say Bell, do not know what equipment is required for your receivers. The $89 sounds to be for the wrong swich.....lol

dosbourne is correct to say take everything you can with you, its much safer that way.

If you take the switch you had at your current adress then all you have to pay is the 100$ for the receivers

Don't worry this is a very intelligent guy, he is NOT getting Express Vu to do the work.

He will get someone he knows and trusts.

Good Man.

So to bring this topic back from the dead. I currently have a 9200 (rented) and 2 x 3100's. I just purchased another HDTV and would like to have that showing HD. I can purchase a 6100 for 250.00. I looked on Bells page and i cannot find receiver purchase options so i think they only let you rent now? Is 250.00 a decent price? I am downgrading my package to only have the digital standard and HD soon. Just need some advice. Thanks for all the previous replies as well.

If you are just replacing a 3100 with a 6100 you should have no issues at all, assuming that you had the SW44 hooked up during the move.

The 6100 is still available for purchase, however, look very closely at the label on the box showing Receiver Number etc, for the word "Reman". Express Vu have a tendency to not bring this to the customers attention. $249 is correct for a 6100 REFURBISHED receiver, $299 is for a New one.

Best Buy carry these models if you can't find one at Bell World etc.

Cool. So basically I have a 9200, 3100 and 3100 right now with a SW44.

I move next Friday and have the installer coming that morning. I called the store he works at and I can buy one for $299.00 but the guy there told me that I need another SW44. If I am just replacing one of those 3100 with a 6100 than I should be ok? Can one dish with one SW44 run a 9200, 6100 and 3100 with no trouble?

dosbourne is quite correct, the only time you need another SW44 is if you go above the 4 tuners, then you are looking at 4 x 2GHz 2 port splitters and an extra SW44.

You should be able to sell the 3100 and recoup some of the outlay on the 6100.

Alternately, if the guy will sell you a 6120 you will get another Dish and 2 x LNB's and a pair of SW21's giving you the choice of erecting this second Dish and keeping the 3100 and you will still have the capability of adding one more tuner in the future of this second Dish.

Just as a note, the 6120 is or should be the same cost as the 6100.

Good luck.

Yes, 6100r is sporadically available on ******** and various third party retailers. You save a whole $50 for a unit someone else thought useless enough to return or which was used by a DishNet subscriber and returned as inferior.

Another Canadian satellite company gives you an equivalent HD receiver for about HALF the cost of these "refurbished/remanufatured/reused/rejected" HD boxes. And they handle 8PSK.

Kudos for Bell offering "recycled" units for sale. But $50 off a $299 "new" price point? More profits for the shareholders I suppose. Personally, I'd insist on a genuine HD receiver than handles MPEG-4 instead of these over-priced almost obsolete "bargain" units.

I just saw dozens of Refurbished 6100's in my local Best Buy.

Sensual Poet is correct they are $50 cheaper than a new unit, although they do have the same warranty.

They also make Piracy easier as the Refurbished units all have Smart Cards......lol

Nimiq 1

Well all mine do. I have 5 skids, 72 on each, al have cards. I called another Vendor on Quebec, he has 9 skids in total, all his have cards too.

So I guess the moral of the story is, that I should qualify my comments to "All the refurbished 6100's I have and a fellow Vendor have, all contain Smart Cards (over 1400 receiversin total) although it is entirely possible that some Refurbished units out there might still have the Cam on the Board".

There you go, much more accurate.

Nimiq 1

It is likely an issue of when the units were delivered i.e. older/original stock of refurbished did not, new (as of some xxx date) have cards. Things change :-)
