I'm not a very cultured person when it comes to movies and I havent seen a lot of classics over the years.

Can people recommend me the absolute must see films from say the last 10-15 years or so..I want to compile a list and slowly wade through them.

Thanks
SG

Since signing up to Lovefilm I've been trying to get through some of the "classics" myself and on the whole it's been worthwhile.

A good starting point for me was the IMDb Top 250

You can also sort by decade using links on left of page to give you the Top 50 movies from each decade Top Rated "2000s" Titles which might be of more interest to you.

EDIT: great minRAB think alike BlitZace!

From the last 10 years:-
Sixth Sense
Cast Away
Gladiator
Shrek
Bourne Identity trilogy
Spiderman 1 & 2
Saw
American Gangster
Transformers

There's loaRAB more and these still might not be for you (depenRAB the type of movies you like),however I feel these are classics.

Ok starting at 1990 (although you are missing a wealth of films from before that) here's some I would consider esssential viewing.

Requiem for a Dream
City of God
Amelie
Battle Royale
The Usual Suspects
Fight Club
Se7en
Groundhog day
The Shawshank Redemption
Shaun of the Dead
28 days later

Actually you are best off just looking through those IMDB links and going from there, trying to keep it more mainstream for you with the films i've listed but it's hard to be sure what you would like, genres etc

If you like Se7en then give Finchers latest Zodiac a go, it's a great film.

How about some Wes Anderson films, Rushmore and the The Royal Tenenbaums being his best IMO. Pretty much everything the Coen Brothers have done is worth a watch.

I'm guessing you have seen The Green Mile, if you like shawshank there's a chance you might like that.

Newkid30, you've got some good taste there.

I'd whole heartily recommend Requiem for a Dream, pretty damn dark. Also aronofskys "Pi".

Check out some foreign stuff too:

La Haine - You simply must see this
Man Bites Dog

I know what you mean about Requeim for a dream, it is one of the most disturbing films I've ever seen, but a must-see at the same time. Excellent topic really well handled.

As you enjoyed Green Mile and Shawshank Remption: have you seen Papillion? Probably my favourite prison drama, even though it's a bit before the time you specified.

In addition to those mentioned, some other recent classics imho:

The Motorcycle Diaries
Oldboy
Spirited Away
The Station Agent
Downfall
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada
