Moved from Texas to North Dakota. Should I spring for a "plugin" for my Honda?

the car should not need any heating devices if its kept in a garage overnite. just make sure that the oil you are running is the correct weigth for cold weather, usually 5w20 or even thinner, the lube shop should be able to make a proper suggestion.

plug in is to keep your battery charged for when i gets too cold to start battery. my friend has a remote starter in his accord. like having fun with people by starting car with key and hand in pocket. lol

I have a 1999 Honda Accord that I bought while living in Texas and drove over to Grand Forks this Fall. I plan on taking my car and getting the battery replaced and purchasing snow tires next week. People are telling me that I should not need the plugin thingy since I have a garage but I am a busy grad student and need my car functioning properly at all times. My car is in pretty good shape with 84K miles on it. Do you think getting the plugin is essential? How much should it cost, anyway? I really want to get a remote starter and that costs about $400 I am told. I would like to save some bucks but will get the plug in system if I really have to.
