Mountain Bike question?

I'm trying to find a couple of good quality mountain bikes for me and my fiance, i have been looking at some online and i noticed that most of them have bigger tires than usual mountain bikes do, Im wondering is that going to affect our rides? were not gonna going over huge rocks on a mountain side or anything, usually just the occasional ride around town. The ones ive been looking at have dual disc brakes, the bigger tires as mentioned, dual suspension.

If you are just doing in town riding you can probably leave out any dual suspension models. Go with a hardtail, it will save you some cash, and rear suspension, while awesome on the trail is virtually useless on pavement and smooth terrain. As far as the bigger tires, these bikes are called 29ers. The standard MB tire was 26 inches but there is a large segment of the MB community that is shifting to these larger 29 inch tires. They provide a much nicer and more stable ride and the 29 inch hardtail will soon take the place of all but the most extreme travel 26 inch dual suspension bikes. I would say go to your LBS (local bike shop) and test ride a few different configurations and models. I prefer and ride Gary Fisher myself, but Cannondale and Specialized as well as Trek and GT all make excellent bikes. Also look at Giant, Diamondback, Ibis, Niner, Norco, Chumba, i could go forever.....
