Mountain bike full suspension/brand.?

For xmas this year im looking into a mountain bike, i just got into the sport and have a budget of about $1,200(USD). While me and my dad were at REI for our packs for Philmont this summer i checked out the bikes. There was a 2009 GT force 3.0 that looked nice, i was wondering if this was a good relible bike and is GT a good brand? are their any other full suspension bikes around this price that are better? thanks a bunch, BTW i want to do some trail riding with some jumps, but nothing major like DH courses or 7' drops.
