motorola rival says i have a new text but i really don't...?

I received a few texts right in a row on my motorola rival last night, and I think my phone got kind of overwhelmed. My phone currently has the little envelope picture meaning that I have an unread text message, and whenever I get a new text it says "2 new text messages" like there's an old one I haven't read. However, I don't actually have any unread messages. I've tried scrolling through all my saved texts, but it still says I have an unread one. I've also tried shutting my phone off then turning it back on, and that didn't do anything. Anyone know what's happening here??
