Motorola Q wap issues. Flashed to cricket

I think I have a somewhat funny issue. I am using the Moto Q(sprint branded) with VZW monster flash bc it has a mms client. flashed the phone to cricKet with absolutely no issues. Using it as we speak(talk, text). I have used the rapiconfig.exe method for wap. Here is the funny part: As long as I keep it hooked up to my pc after running rapiconfig I have wap. Go anywhere I want and view anything I want. But the second I pull out the usb and run IE shazaam takes me to the cricKet subscription for $5 a month so I say ok I already pay lets just say yes to get on. So then it asks if I'm sure I want to and I say subscribe and walah "mobile web is temporarily unavailable, try again later" Its been 3 days lol and everytime I hook up to pc and rapiconfig it works until unplugged again. Is there a step I missed somewhere. Here is the wap tut. I followed:

How to: Flash MotoQ to tekcirC(reverse) with Wap & MMS
This tutorial will show you how to flash your Motorola Q from start to finish with WAP & MMS.

First I would like to apologize for any misuse of words, spelling or grammar. English is my second language. A few user on this forum had reply to me I

Whitey10TC has it right.
When you are connected to the PC you are absolutely using the PC Internet connection. The green $5 screen is sometimes cured by Cricket doing a refresh/refurbish. I used to have this problem all the time when I changed ESN's or activated a flashed phone.

Recently, The people I use to do activations /ESN swaps set the phone type to Razr 2 (dont use cpe - "customer provided equipment). This way the problem never occurs.

Well I broke down today and called 2 shops that I've had flash my phones in the past. I flash now but still haven't gotten the wap and mms configuring down. So anyway I called them and was gonna have them do my wap and mms and was told by both shops that they can only do talk and text. Exact words were"We can't do the Q anymore, only talk and text." I was like "wha.....? Can't do it anymore? Why is that?". The girl said because the internet flash is bad...... So here I am asking for any help I can get. I really and emphasize on REALLY wanna do this myself but its starting to look like I'm not gonna get the opp. Which is a shame bc I really love this phone! And I'm the type of guy who has to have wap and mms more than talk or text LOL:doh: So if no one can help would anyone by chance have someone's number in the Cincy or Dayton ,OH area that could do this for me?

If you are still getting the $5 add on message your connecting, it's an most likely account issue. As for the dealers not doing full flashes it is most likely due to the new rate plans, cricket probably wants to limit data on CPE PDA devices. This could also be the cause of your problems if you changed plans last week.

Ok update: First I want to say thank you guys for helping me out! whitey10tc you were right when you said account issue. I read several posts saying to call cricKet and have the account refreshed so I did that several times. Then I read something about CPE(customer Provided Equip.) So I called and took that route to find out that they had my phone under something generic that didn't support data yet I am being charged monthly for it LOL. So the guy refreshed and changed my phone to the q9something and told me to *228 and what do ya know I have wap. Still no mms even after I changed the registry settings. This is the tut I followed did I miss something?:

MMS setting:

Load the phmregistry into your phone and installed (I don

I hate to keep blaming cricket, but like I always say call and have the feature refreshed it may take a few times to take and may also take sometime to become active in the system.
I really do wish that cricKet has better customer service, most likely the rep refreshed the WAP but not the MMS. When I have had it done I request first the wap and then before ending the conversation ask to have the MMS refreshed.
If it is the MMS setting I only see one thing that might need changing this you may need to find out the IP for your area and replace that quoted above.
But I would start with cricKet.

Ok so I've decided that its not something I am doing to the Q.... I had wap working yesterday and then shortly after I posted my thanks on here I turned the phone off and back on and then it started asking for username and password which I know is my #@mycricket.com and password is lowercase cricket... Now it says login error or something about not being permitted to use the connection. Its excuse changes. I think its just these phones aren't really compatible with cricket anymore... I think they may be changing things in their system thats not agreeing with the Q or I just have no clue. i'm disappointed too bc even though this phone is older I love it. Well would with wap atleast. But I guess I'll just search for another phone lol. Oh and I called cricket to get data and mms refreshed and they said if it didn't work to call them back on another phone or land line so they can run diagnostics on my Q. Is that even possible? From the 1-800-cricKet folks? Just wanting to know if I should waste my time calling them again?? Thanks again HF

Make sure your HDR is set to CDMA only not automatic ....

I just want to say thank you lhohnson1981! You are the first person that has mentioned CDMA only and it worked by typing in ##*send go to option B and change it to CDMA only.... I've found a million write ups and how to's to put wap on Q but none mentioning anything about HDR CDMA only settings. Why is that not in the walktroughs? Is it something that is just common knowledge that I should have known for WM devices?

I have flashed about 10 q's and 20 Q9's to cricket in the last two months, basically using the Tekcirc procedure you used.

A couple of things will make life easier for you. 1) a program called "Mobile Registry Editor", this allows you to edit the PPC registry from the PC through active sync., I found it a few years ago.

Even better there is a cab apparently written by InsaineCain called MotoQMMS.cab, Send it your your PPC then run it from there, It sets ups the registry for MMS to cricket, reboot the PPC and you r ready. this cab may be posted but I am not sure how InsaneCain feels about it so I am not playing any part in distributing it.

We have run into some signifigant problems with q's lately, crashing or power cycling.

We have found that if we replace any EVDO PRL that gets loaded by OTA with PRL 1042 (nationwide non-EVDO) it seems to correct the problem .

As for your need to re-enter login information, we have only seen that once or twice. On the occasions we saw it, we re-booted the PPC and it continued normally.

The only tthing we would really like to find is a method for for changing the login name from the PPC, when a Q is moved to a diffferent Cricket phone Number, you must run rapiconfig.exe from the PC again. Would be much easier if we can figure out where that info info goes and be able to change the user name directly.

gdemi Thanks for that bit of info. I am gonna try the 1042 prl that I just dl'd and see if that fix's the wap and mms issue. The wap works fine as long as I select CDMA only then it blazes along. MMS however I have been recieving but not able to send. I read a post saying that I had to select EVDO only for that so I basically have to switch back and forth between CDMA(wap) and EVDO for mms? I config'd my registry exactly how the walkthroughs say. But still no mms. Could it be the 10.3.0.41 address? I live in OHIO could that be diff? Like I said I recieve but cant send

I wrote a program vb.net (SetMDN) but for ArcSoft that does an API call to SmsGetPhoneNumber (sms.dll) and set the registry value adding a 1 to it, I am guessing you would need to drop the 1 and add "@.........." afterwards. My guess would be to write a .CAB file that in initial setup it copies a modified SetMDN.exe that calls the API and sets a registry value, then in the POST XML run the wapprovisioning reading the registry value you set and setting the DUN.

Question I have about the Q9c (Sprint branded) do I need to install a Verizon monster on it for MMS to work?

m4f1050: This has all been posted elsewhere (mostly referring to the Q, but the setup of the Q9C/M is virtually identical)

Since Sprint Messaging is so much different than everybody else (Verizon/Alltel,US Cellular/Cricket). You must load a different MP. I use the VZW WM 6.0 MP, then upgrade to the VZW WM 6.1 MP.
UPdate the PST with RSD CDMA general, run Rapiconfig.exe, then update the registry for MMS and you are done.

Do you know how I can update the registry with a new phone number (for the WAP) login? Many times we find a Q that has changed phone numbers and we dont have a computer handy to run rapiconfig.exe
