i got the phone to work but then i had to port my old number over...
i redid the same steps again...
got phone/sms text and internet to work
but mms isnt working...
i changed the APN number to my new one..
reloaded the NV... files...using new number
opened QPST and added password to UM and AM...
but still no good

definitely... the work is already done for you, just follow the steps... and make sure cricket has your plan provisioned right.. that can cause some headaches there buddy.

is there a way to make the download service stop from starting i know its the OTA update downloading but i let it download but it doesnt ever install so that SPrecovery can stop it, it just re-downloads over and over again but never tells me anything about installing so it kills my battery is there anyway to stop the download service or for the OTA update to go away? i checked my sd card but theres never any update.zip or anything.

How do you know it is the OTA update? What are you basing that on? Cricket doesn't push OTA updates for Verizon phones AFAIK. Also why do you think it would download over and over again? Once should be enough, there us nothing to gain from downloading it more than once. Also they are downloaded to /cache, not /sdcard.

If you are getting notifications to install an OTA that already downloaded, just delete it from /cache and reboot.

Is the phone completely flashed? It may still be accessing Verizon and trying to update.. but not getting verizon info back.. so loopty loop

i go to setting>about phone>system updates. it says its downloading the 2.1 update 1 and it just re-downloads all the time and it has never gave a notification to install it.

It says "System updates, check for system updates". I would recommend not doing that in the future if you don't want updates.

Are you on 2.0.1 right now? If you are, you should probably update to 2.1 and then don't touch that system updates thing again. It will probably wipe any hacks though. I'd research things before doing that.

no im on 2.1 smoked glass rom. and no its just say's "system updates"

what i dont get is that they automatically download wether i check or not its downloading i check thru setting>applications>running services>then its say's that a download service is running thats the OTA update downloading. ive proven this by killing the service and sending the a text stops it. but after ever call it it starts again or sometimes even randomly.

Cricket keeps telling me that there's nothing wrong with my account and if I buy a Cricket phone MMS will work. I've officially hit a wall with them.

...Is there any chance that the APNs settings changed?

Wow. I can't believe a custom rom has that OTA stuff still active in it. Sounds like a bug. Your posts are making more sense to me now that I know that though.

I guess I'll leave this to the other smoked glass users here. I'm running stock 2.1 on my droid. I have cyanogenmod on my g1 though. If smoked glass causes too much trouble you might want to check that out.

Maybe people have said that before, but it isn't true. At least not on my g1. I can't see any reason why the droid version wouldn't have it. It's a pretty standard thing.

I can't say for sure, but I find the absence of iptables in cyanogenmod for any phone so unlikely that I would bet money against it.

Why not give it a try and let us know? The froyo builds aren't final anyway, so you would have to be in an experimental mood to try them. I'm running 5.0.8 on my g1.
