From what I understand about the Motorola Linux for the A/Ming series phones is that Motorola didn't really open up their API or even spread word about it. So the result is a very closed system with little development.
Vlingo seems to be pretty advanced in what it aims to do and on searching, it doesn't seem to have a variant for the Motorola Linux OS.
