Ok, I am currently 16 years old and planning to get a motorcycle for my senior year, I have no road experience but am planning to work and save up, I am thinking of getting those new 2008 ninja 250's. Now how much will it be to start my own insurance policy? and how much might my insurance be per year or month? thanks...and will it cost more if I get a Katana 600...2004 model maybe?

Grades will assist you in getting a lower rate on insurance. Typically, for an 18 year old, you are looking at $600-1500 per year (liability only...full coverage can be up to around $3000). You will need to take a motorcycle safety course as well....at very least for your own safety.

The concern I have is not your insurance, but the CC difference in what you are looking at! I mean, a Ninja 250, depending upon your size, hgt, etc. is a pretty small, beginner bike that you will outgrow in a few months. But then you are at the other end of the spectrum with a Kan-a-tuna (sorry worked at a bike shop for 7 years)....

Do you have ANY experience with higher CC dirt bikes....preferably 2 strokes? Like a 125 or higher? Think about this long and hard. I saw too many young guys try to drive off the lot and miss gear, hit the gas, and crash into traffic.

I am 18 and have a clean record and my own policy at $250 a year. With 0-little road experience and such a young age with a sports bike you are going to be paying well beyond $350 a year. You cant have your own independent policy until you are 18 I believe. just wait until you are 18 and get some more road experience

More CCs More $$. trust me, i got a busa. put in your parents name and on their insurance
