Motocross racing suzuki drz-125.?

I currently own a drz-125. Im suppose to start motocross racing with my friend soon. We cant afford to buy me a brand new $7,000 bike. The club im starting at accepts trailbikes to race,so it is possible for me to enter my bike but when we went up there to watch every trail bike that was raced came last because of how slow off the mark they are. I know the suspension and the brakes and all about that on my current bike aren't ment for racing but do you think its possible to get my bike modified for racing in some way so that i have some chance of not getting absoutley creamed and does'nt cost a billion?

My best advice would be to sell the drz125 and buy a used 125 two stroke. They are quicker and the powerband is ridiculous. You can find plenty of 125 two strokes for a grand. If your going to spend the money you probabl do it to a bike meant for the track. I would look for an rm125,yz125, or a cr125. Hope I helped.
 
I have seen modified versions of trail bikes made so people can race and jump them successfully, but the trouble is by the time you spend all the money to upgrade the bike you have you may just as well have bought a bike designed for racing.

You may even find a few of those trail bikes that were allowed to race were actually already modified. I used to get annoyed at one track my kids raced at that allowed trail bikes due to the fact that the people racing them had done so much work to them to make them suitable and you had new people watching them and then turning around and purchasing the same bike, only to hurt themselves as their bikes were standard.

Fact is they are not made to race with and you could spend heaps trying to make it competitive but really it is probably just not worth it when ultimately your main aim is to eventually own a mx bike.

Since you are only just starting out racing you could not expect to be at the pointy end of the pack anyway so why not start on the bike you have ( being very careful not to over jump and jump too large jumps on it) and that way you can get your foot in the door and a bit of experience. Then when you find your way you can hopefully save to get a mx bike.

keep your eye out when at the track as many people upgrade during the year to another bike and you may pick up an mx bike cheaper. Just make sure you have it checked over to see that it is in good order before buying.

look up fcr suspension and talk to them they support privateer and have great forks and shocks

get a pro circuit t4 silencer for the bike

drop the front spocket down 1 tooth it gives you more take off

put on an actual disk brake on the back

use a high flow air filter and take off the side panels this give you a few more horse

have someone who is good at doing mechanicle stuff to work on it
