Moto V3X vs Moto V3i vs Samsung D807

As some of you know, I'm having a dilemma on picking which phone to get. This phone will have to last me till 2008 because I usually don't buy phones alot.

I have already researched on the V3x and the V3i.

I'm choosing the V3i because it's more of a refined V3, slim, and plus the blue M logo looks slick. However, I DON'T want the phone because of the popularity over here. Too many people have them. Even the YOUNG teens on my block have them. It's getting rather annoying.

I'm choosing the V3x because of it's expanded features, it's uniqueness, and it's capabilities. However there are many drawbacks to this phone. First and most importantly, it does not have the 850mhz band used all over North America. I have used http://wirelessadvisor.com/index.cfm to determine if 1900mhz is in my area and it is, but I don't know if the site is false or true. Another drawback is that it is not as slim as the other V3's.

Then, today I found the Samsung D807 while browsing for other phones. The phone design looks promising, and it looks quite slim. I have never used/owned a slider. Does anyone else have any opinions on this phone? I have read that the phone does feel cheap (the plastic).

I'm really used to the Motorola layout though, after using my T721 for 2 years.

have you considered the T809? its like the D807 but it has a QVGA screen which is more upscale like the V3x. Otherwise, I would choose the D807. Although I like the V3x the most, it just doesn't make sense to have a none GSM 850 in North America.
 
I thought I read on Motomodders.net that you can switch from 900 to 850 with a seem edit, don't know if it's true or not but you might want to check it out........
 
Alright guys, I've ruled out the Samsung once again.

Now deciding between the V3i and V3x. I can get the V3i for around 230 USD, while I can get the V3x for around 300 USD. Is the $70+ price difference really worth it? Again there's no guarantee in my area for 1900mhz, but there is 3g support in my area (a plus for the V3x).

Besides these features on the V3x, is it really worth it for that much more money?

V3x:
Pros:
- Larger/better screen
- 3G
- 2.0MP Camera
- Better phonebook organizing
- Better keys
- Uniqueness
Cons:
- Tri-band
- Less 1900mhz in US
- Same external screen as normal V3/V3i/V3c/V3m series
- Larger
- Thicker

V3i
Pros:
- Size: Thin, sleek
- Plenty of mods
- External lighted "M" logo
- 1.23mp camera
- Quad-band
Cons:
- Not unique
- Every 13 year old has one (V3 at least...)
- Unable to distinguish between V3 and V3i
- Smaller, less vibrant screen
 
There wil be no 3G for the V3x. I believe the V3x has support for 3G only on WCDMA 2100, and no support for 3G on 1900, which is what 3G runs on in North America. So, that takes out one of your pluses. Although I think the V3i is not as good as the V3x it sounds like it would still be the best option given its quadband capabilities.
 
Thanks for the quick reply! That clears ALOT of things up, especially when Cingular advertises that there's 3G support in my area. I guess the D807/800 is back in the race. I can get the D807 for a little cheaper than the V3x. (about 280 USD). I don't like the D807 because it's a little too flash for me with the chrome bezel and etc.

Plus, this phone would have to last me from 1 year to 2 years, because I'm not really a phone buying guy. I'm planning to stay in the US for a while, so I'll probably stick with a Quad-Band phone.

I've read a lot of mixed reviews from UK sites. A lot say the build quality on the V3x is shoddy, while some say it's sturdy and rigid.
 
you know, I know you have narrowed down your selection but if you wanted a phone to last you 1 to 2 years you might want to go for a quadband Sony Ericsson, just based on features. Just saying this because in 2 years the 1.3mp cam on the V3i and D807 are going to seem pathetic...plus the V3i has no EDGE so if falls even more behind in that respect.
 
It's a shame most of SE's phones are sliders or candybar style phones. I just sold my W600i just for that reason. It seemed too bulky and I was used to flip-phones much more.

Just out of curiosity, is the K750i a good phone? It seems like it's in the same price range. Plus, it's got a 2.0mp camera. I think it's tri-band though.

My price range is anything under 310USD.

I love the typical reactions my friends give me when I ask them what phone I should get.

V3i: "Just get that Razr, I have one of those too." (he has a black V3, not a V3i)"

D807: "Get that Samsung, it looks hot."

V3x: "I've never seen that phone before.", or "What phone is that?"
 
honestly,the phones your looking at sorta suck lol. the d807 is the only decent one, the 6131 is a good consideration, the w810. The v3i sucks, its is a razr not an upgrade at all. it sucks i had one for a week and gave it to my mom lol. the v3x is useless in NA, and the d807 is pretty good, its a really good looking phone and so are the 6131 and the w810i a little bit... so look at those phones, there much better than the razrs
 
ya, in that case most quadband Sony Ericssons are out then, since they are too expensive. If you want a solid phone you could look around for the Nokia 6131, its quadband with 1.3 mp camera but it has a better UI and both the Samsung and the Motorola's. It also has very nice screens (internal 16.7 million colours, exterior 262,000 colours). As far as I can tell its in your price range on ebay too.
 
Yeah, I saw that phone. It doesn't exactly look great in my opinion, but function over form right?

Well, I'll have to make my choice tonight, because I really need a phone.
 
After much thinking, I'm probably just going to go with the V3i. I can get it for around 230USD, so it seems like a good deal. I don't really care about EDGE and stuff as I don't use the internet or media net. I just use a phone for texting and calling, as well as looking good with it.

I'll probably buy it tonight if prices for the D820 don't go down.
 
if you really do want the Samsung then you could probably try the D807, since its features are almost exactly what the V3i's are. Otherwise, I think you made a good choice.
 
I also looked at the Samsung D820/T809. It's also VERY slim compared to the RAZRs. However, I don't have a lot of experience with sliders.
