My mother in law has a large breed dog that has shown some aggression towards my 3 year old who is hyper and on the autism spectrum and does not have speech. My solution is its not a good mix so keep them separated until my child is more developmentally ready to understand how to behave around an animal. But my mother in law insists on them being around each and trying to get my son to behave and wanting to use time outs for 2 minutes when my son runs after the dog or does whatever that's not appropriate.
I think having children especially special needs kids you pick and choose your battles and i get that he needs to learn how to treat pets but I think maybe the gradient should be lowerd from an Akita and time outs to working on dogs at parks and younger siblings.
Am I right or wrong?
